At nearly 11AM, hungover from several devastating losses at Scrabble, we had breakfast at the Gray Dog Deli in Mineral Point. Even though it was closer to lunch time, they graciously served us egg sandwiches and strong coffee. The flavors, coffee, fresh fruit, hospitality and free wi-fi (my phone has no service in Mineral Point!) were all on point.

Passing through Mineral Point, and just happened to stop at the Gray Dog Deli, went in to actually use the restroom, and then stayed for lunch. My wife had vegetarian chili, which she loved, and I had a Ham and Cheese sandwich, which came with a tasty side of sweet cole slaw. Food was very good. The staff was very friendly and made us feel at home. I would go back in a heartbeat if I pass this way again.

Wow, I really wanted to like this place but, wa waa waaah.... I ordered Big Blue Beef but was served a Black Bean Burger. They offered me a side so I chose the soup but then they charged me $3.50 for the soup!! The people behind me waited 30 minutes for their sandwiches before they asked how much longer; they were told the order hadn't been placed in the kitchen and it would be another 10 minutes. I sensed their frustration and shared it thoroughly. I might try this place again someday but I can't highly recommend it, that's for sure.

We recently stopped in for lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon while we were in town for the day. We found the decor to be interesting- some things were really nice (the shutters used as table dividers, the non-matching tables and chairs) and other parts seemed out of place, but I can't really put my finger on what it was that seemed off. Maybe it's just that the name Gray Dog Deli made me think of hot dogs (gray hot dogs? not really an appetizing thought) instead of comfy warm soups and sandwiches. The owner was very friendly and seemed very attentive to all of the customers. Our waitress was less friendly, but seemed stressed-like she had something else on her mind- so I'd guess it was just an off day and not necessarily the norm. We both had chicken sandwiches, my husband had a side of potato salad (originally he ordered pasta salad but they came back and said they were out of that) and I had sweet potato fries. The sandwiches were pretty basic- I actually was given a different one than I'd ordered, but it was decent and since the waitress already seemed to be having a hard time, I didn't send it back. The sweet potato fries were very good- I especially liked the dipping sauce (I think it was pretty much just spicy mayo but it was delicious). My husband said the coffee was good (Victor Allen's) but was a little surprised that it just came in a thin paper cup and not a mug. Suggestion to the owners- big warm coffee house type mugs would be a great added touch to the place! Overall it was ok- just basic food, nothing special, though.

Super friendly service and the food was very good as well. The black bean burger, vegetarian chili, and sweet potato fries are all delicious. There's free wifi here too, though I wasn't able to get it to work.

Great spot for lunch! Fresh guacamole was excellent! I had a barbecue chicken quesadilla that was quite tasty; not too heavy on the barbecue, which was perfect. My wife had a Caesar salad that was very good in her opinion. They also have a few board games on hand and plenty of comfy seats if you're there to hang out and have a coffee. Highly recommended!

We visited for the first time over Mother's Day this year. Mineral Point is a great half way point between me and my folks, so we meet up there two or three times a year for day trips. I am so happy to see a business started there with regular hours! One of our favorite places in MP is the brewery at the end of the main drag, but it's Spring and they are still on their Winter hours of only Th-F-S nights. Boo! This place has steady hours all week. Hurrah! The space is large and creatively varied in seating choices with many nooks and crannies, tables, couches, hidden cubbies. I think I even remember counter seating, although I'm not positive my memory serves me correctly. We sat at a nice sized wood farmhouse type table in the front window. The servers were very friendly and both women I saw serving wore cute fedoras. I hope it's part of their thing there, because it was super-cool as uniforms go. Gray Dog's menu is as creatively varied as their space. There are certainly standards, and they are done well. We had a rueben and a grilled cheese on grain bread at our table that were just perfect. They also have creative sammies, my mom had the portabello panini which looked pretty great, and there were variations on the standards, like the Sweet Jane and a host of black bean burger variations. They come with a choice of one of four sides, or an upgrade special side for a buck or two extra. There were salads, starters, and entrees that we didn't have this time. We did share a piece of chocolate layer cake which was moist and tasty. They are very reasonable, comfortable, and friendly. Afterward, we walked around Mineral Point a bit, but it felt a little creepy as it was like a ghost town that day. Honestly, at one point we were the only four people walking along High Street. It felt a bit like a deserted town episode of Scooby-Doo. Looking forward to returning for more menu items at Gray Dog, but not before I nail down that Brewery with the crazy hours down the street.

This is a very nice little place in downtown Mineral Point. It has some creative options on the menu for both breakfast and lunch. The breakfast menu is small, but I have enjoyed each of the items I have got so far. Lunch is also pretty good and has some nice variety other than your typical small town diner fare. Bottom line: A solid choice if you are in this area.

Great deli. The service could not have been better. Emily was friendly, offered guidance on what was good, and checked back several times. The menu is small, but the selections are varied. The food was tasty and well priced.

If you're looking for a great quick lunch in a fun restaurant run by great people, then this is your place. The generous sandwiches are always made with wonderful artisan breads, and the salads are always fresh and crisp. Try their flatbread pizzas or some homemade soup too. The vegetarian chilli is wonderful. There are many vegetarian options including a delicious black bean burger, which is one of my favorites...and I'm not even a vegetarian!
